In order to provide that kind of product, we believe that well-paid American workers here at home will put more of their heart and soul into what they make than an overseas underpaid counterpart. It is only here where we can make our technological breakthroughs in material structure and design. We need everyone involved here with us when we are making those game changing decisions.
However, it’s not enough for us to be proud of making our Thompson Tee sweat-proof undershirts in the land of Uncle Sam. You, the American public, have to want it as well—and to say no to cheesy, cheap, and easily broken knock-offs; to say yes to buying quality products that you know will not let you down when you invest in them. That is how we did things for years in the United States, but somewhere along the way things changed. Outsourcing became rampant in the 1980’s and skyrocketed in the 1990’s, leaving many hardworking folks without employment or hope of ever coming back to the same job. There were many proponents who were all for moving jobs away. “Products will be cheaper here at home” they said, along with “we are helping developing nations.” The fact remains that the entire manufacturing industry has all but gone extinct in the United States.
Everyday things that we use and take for granted are shipped back to the United States, and they seem to be worth their price: cheap. Things have begun to change in the hearts and minds of Americans about brand loyalty and the site of manufacturing. Even corporate entities that are known for products made outside the United States such as Walmart are hearing what the people of the country want: “Made in USA” tags on their products.
Regarding Walmart, The Chicago Tribune states that:
“the made-in-America push intends to resurrect domestic manufacturing jobs and save money," the low-cost retailer said, "because it is more cost-effective and efficient to manufacture closest to the point of consumption. About two-thirds of the money Wal-Mart U.S. spends to buy products already goes to items that are made, sourced, assembled or grown in the U.S.," the company said.
